Working with
Young Actors
This production was put on with Orlando Family Stage's Youth Academy, which works with children ages 8 to 14. I approach every process I work on with the intent of creating a space of trust and communication, but I took this approach even further when working with young actors. I focused on being extra clear and adaptive when working with and talking to our cast, from blocking notes to prop changes to rehearsal scheduling. It was important for the cast to be assured that the other stage managers and I knew the details of the show and their tracks so they knew they could turn to us and ask us questions.
Blocking Book
I took lead on creating our blocking book for this show, taking note on the entrances, exits, and choreography for our cast of 36 young actors. I created a key listing out the shorthand of each actor's track. During tech, I worked closely with our choreographer, Laura, to help respace formations on stage using these notes.
